CJP Launches App to aid in Filing NRC Claims in Assam App will help volunteers collect data and streamline process

Assam is on the precipice of a major crisis, with more than 40 lakh people being left out of its National Register of Citizens. In spite of the claims and objections process having begun, and less than one month before it concludes, more than 35 lakh people have reportedly not yet applied to be included in the NRC. CJP has been closely monitoring the situation in Assam, and we have now launched an app to help streamline the process of collecting data.
CJP has cultivated a network of Volunteer Motivators who are training and helping people across the state with their NRC documents. Last month, we launched a toll-free helpline to assist those with questions about the claims and objections process. Our app can be used by any volunteer working on the ground in Assam.
Over four million people have been left out of the NRC draft, most of them from socio-economically backward communities. Now CJP, drawing from its previous experience in providing legal aid in Gujarat, will step in with a multi-faceted team of lawyers and volunteers to ensure that these people receive a fair chance while filing claims across 18 of the worst affected districts. Your contribution can help cover the costs of a legal team, travel, documentation and technological expenses. Please donate generously here.
The CJP NRC Helpline app, available to download on the Google Play Store. It provides information, news, and various forms to help volunteers collect data from people reapplying to be included in the NRC, those declared Doubtful Voters (D Voters), and those who have been lodged in detention camps. Users can also take photographs of relevant original documents that can be inserted into the app. Volunteers can also file daily reports of the places they have traveled, the number of people they met with or trained, and the work they have completed.
