The National Commission for Minorities (NCM) has responded to CJP’s complaint against Vikas Sehrawat alias ‘Malik Bhai’, and written to Meerut’s Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) requesting a detailed report within 15 days. Our key prayer to take cognisance of our complaint under the National Commission for Minorities Act, 1992, was accepted by the NCM via their communication dated September 1, 2021.

CJP’s complaint dated July 22, 2021 to the honourable commission highlighted the series of Islamophobic speeches given by Sehrawat. We also reported the various videos uploaded by him on social media, passing vile and sexually explicit remarks against Muslim women.

Our complaint shows how Sehrawat was arrested for two weeks for his derogatory comments against politician Alka Lamba, and after getting bail he uploaded obnoxious videos about her, calling her a ch***al (a slang term used to describe women as prostitutes). CJP has also sent a video of Sehrawat to the Commission, where he openly issued death threats against Muslims and said that he had declared a war against them. He appealed to his audience that either they kill Muslims or die. In the same video, he asked his ‘guru’ Yati Narsinghanand to trust him and not worry, because he would “take care” of all Muslims.

CJP’s complaint also draws a link between Vikas Sehrawat and Dasna temple chief, Yati Narsinghanand Saraswati. In a video from March 2021, the priest is seen praising Sehrawat and saying, “Islam ka jihad khatam ho, uske liye hum yojna banaenge, uske liye aise aise yuva khade hue hai, aur malik Sehrawat jo jail mein bhaut jaldi jail se bahar aaega, ek do dinn mein bachche ki zamaanat hojaegi, aur nayi urja ke saath woh apne kaam pe lagega”. (Translation: We will make policies to end Islam Jihad (militancy), and such youth [pointing to some men standing beside him] are standing tall to do this work. Malik Sehrawat who is in jail will be released soon, he will get bail in 1-2 days and with new energy he will work towards eradicating Jihad).

The complaint mentions a litany of violations of the Indian Penal Code that lays down provisions against hate speech and incitement to violence against a particular community. We have stated that such hateful messages doing the rounds on social media poses a serious threat to the secular fabric of our country and needs to be acted against at every instance.
