After spending two years in detention camp, elderly woman finally released Way2Barak

Despite being an Indian citizen, Shanti Basfore was released after spending two years in a detention camp. Despite having all kinds of documents, this woman in her sixties became an illegal citizen. After 2 years and 29 days, she returned home with the help of Citizens for Justice & Peace. 

Shanti is a resident of Ramraikuti pt ii under Agomoni police station of Dhubri district on the Indo-Bangladesh border. He was born in Assam and got married in this state. She was living with her daughter after losing her husband. But on May 5, 2019, darkness suddenly descended on her life. Despite having all the documents, she was taken to Kokrajhar detention camp. From then the legal battle started. It was at that time that she received the news of missing of her mentally ill son. Then she became more helpless from the detention camp. At that time, the organization called Citizens for Justice & Peace brought hope to her life. This human rights organization has been working for many years to solve the citizenship issue. With their help, Basfore was finally released on 4th June.
