UPON hearing the counsel the Court made the following

O R D E R

Mr. Harish N. Salve, learned Amicus Curiae points out

that out of nine trials, 8 cases have already been finally

disposed of by the Trial Court. A large number of accused have been convicted, who have, in turn, filed appeals in the High Court, which are pending. According to the learned counsel, trial is still going on in one case, in which the Investigating Officer is being cross examined.

Mr. Salve submits that the defence proposes to examine

as many as 300 witnesses which may take some time to conclude.

The Chairman of the Special Investigation Team, who is

present in person, submits that given six months time, the trial in the last of the cases should also conclude.

In the circumstances, we direct the Principal Judge,

City Civil & Sessions Court, Navrangpura, Ahmedabad, Gujarat before whom the trial is pending, to make an endeavor to conclude the same as expeditiously as possible, preferably within six months from today and also expedite the conclusion of the trial relating to Naroda Gram incident, as far as possible, preferably within six months from today.
