Call for Submissions for Citizens for Justice and Peace
Following the anti-Muslim riots in Bombay after the demolition of the Babri Masjid in 1992, Teesta Setalvad and Javed Anand quit their jobs in the mainstream media to fight divisive politics. As an outcome of this effort, Communalism Combat was started as a monthly publication in 1993. It relaunched in 2015 online as Sabrang India. We stand for the Constitution, the rights of minorities, believing that hate hurts, but harmony works.
Citizens for Justice and Peace stands for rights, justice and peace. Our work focuses on achieving justice and equality for all, through the courts and beyond. Our experience with expanding rights jurisprudence has been significant. We focus on the rights and lives of marginalized minorities, girls and women, religious and ethnic minorities, forest workers, Adivasis and Dalits. We also provide a platform for campaigns, scholarship, discussion and debate on these and other human rights issues.
We invite submissions from lawyers, activists, students, journalists among others engaged with issues of human rights, communalism, caste, and the law for both publication on Citizens for Justice and Peace and Sabrang India. We believe both the law and judicial directives need a critical lens. We invite responses to structural and everyday injustices through writing, videos, photos and storytelling.
Below are guidelines for submission, also outlining the broad categories of work we are interested in publishing.
We welcome the following kinds of work, broadly, although we would be happy to accept other work as well if it matches the vision and work of CJP and Sabrang India.

- Opinion/analysis pieces (1500-2500 words)
We do accept longer analytical pieces in exceptional cases - Rewritten judgments
