Rappler.com reported last week that the United Nations said that one quarter of Rohingya children below the age of five who have escaped violence in Myanmar by fleeing to Bangladesh have malnutrition that could potentially be deadly. UNICEF said that three health and nutrition surveys carried out between October 22 and November 27 indicated that up to 25% of young children living in refugee camps in Bangladesh were acutely malnourished, according to Rappler.com. UNICEF spokesman Christophe Boulierac told journalists that “nearly half the children surveyed have anaemia, up to 40 per cent have diarrhoea, and up to 60 per cent have acute respiratory infections”. According to Rappler.com, around half of the 650,000-plus Rohingya who have escaped to Bangladesh are children.
