The custodial death of Purushottam Krushnamurthy Nadar in the Dharavi Police Station has sparked controversy with Tamilians led by MLA Captain R. Tamil Selvan storming the station and asking the cops the exact reason of death.
On 16th October, drunken Nadar was allegedly arrested by cops after he broke sabeel (earthen pot kept for thirsty to drink water), which led to a scuffle. He then started vomiting after which cops rushed him to Sion Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
According to a relative Vivekand Raja they suspect that Nadar’s death is more than what meets the eye. “He was doing fine on 16th of October and was talking to everyone. Police bashed him up in the lock-up and without letting us know he was shifted to hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. We came in search of him and were told the matter has been shifted to Kurla police station. We are made to go from Dharavi to Kurla for no reason, but no one has answer how he died. We doubt that he died in police custody,” alleged Raja.
