Tanzanian national recounts the ordeal he and a woman went through on Sunday evening, when a mob thrashed them
“The mob was so unruly that they chased the hapless girl for more than 20 minutes, beating her up, tearing her clothes, almost stripping her. When I tried to get her away from the spot, I turned a target too. The two of us were chased and beaten up,” Peter (name changed), a Tanzanian national, told The Hindu on Wednesday, recounting the ordeal he and a woman student went through on Sunday evening.
Peter, a postgraduate student of Acharya Institutes, Soladevanahalli, who was at his cousin’s place near Hesaraghatta that day, rushed to the spot after hearing about African students being thrashed by a mob, following an accident involving a Sudanese national, who allegedly mowed down a woman.
The victim, a 24-year-old management student of the same college, was passing by the accident spot in a car with two of her friends, when the mob blocked the car, dragged them out and thrashed them.“The girl and I tried fleeing from the spot, but to no avail. The mob had torn apart her dress and when I tried to offer her my shirt, they prevented me, beating me further. Even a local person, who finally gave her his T-shirt, was castigated,” Peter recalled.
