July 5, 2021

Fr. Stan Swamy suffers a cardiac arrest early morning and passes away hours before his medical bail hearing.

July 4, 2021

He is put on ventilator support, remains in a critical condition.

May 30, 2021

He tests positive for Covid-19 in Holy Family Hospital. He is put on oxygen support and shifted to the Intensive Care Unit.

May 28, 2021

Bombay HC directs Fr. Stan Swamy to be shifted to Holy Family Hospital for 2 weeks.

May 21

Bombay HC interracts with Fr. Stan via video call. While the court was willing to shift Fr. Stan to a hospital of his choice for treatment, but the priest urged only for interim bail. The priest refused hospitalisation. He said he would either want to go to Ranchi or stay in jail. Then, on the request of Senior Counsel Desai, who sought some time to speak to Father Stan and gain further details on his health, the court posted the matter for June 7.

May 19, 2021

Bombay HC directs that a video call be set up with Fr. Stan Swamy on May 21. The Bench of Justices SJ Kathawalla and Surendra Tavade also directs the Dean of JJ Hospital to constitute a committee of doctors including a neuro-physician, ENT, orthopedic physician, general physician and any other doctor required to examine the Jesuit Priest and submit its report by 11 A.M on May 21.

Fr. Stan finally gets first dose of Covid-19 vaccine, despite being eligible since March 1. He was reportedly denied the vaccine earlier as he did not have his Aadhaar Card!

Fr. Stan's lawyer files Medical note stating how Fr. Stan has been unwell with a cough, fever, an upset stomach and a feeling of weakness. Afflicted with the advanced stages of Parkinson’s disease and debilitating tremors in both arms almost impairs him from accomplishing basic and essential daily tasks such as eating food, drink water and putting on clothes and taking bath, without the assistance of fellow inmates. Note also complains of the abysmal conditions in Taloja with just three Ayurvedic doctors to tend to 3,251 inmates against the original capacity of 2,124. There are also no staff nurses, no pharmacists/compounder, no nursing assistants, no laboratory technicians and no medical specialist (general medicine, dentistry or gynaecologist).

Bombay High Court directs authorities to provide a medical update report of Fr. Stan Swamy by May 15 with an advance copy to Fr. Stan’s lawyer.

Fr. Stan moves Bombay High Court. He files an appeal against two orders of the NIA court, the first rejecting his emergency bail application on health grounds in October, last year, and the second order dated March 22, 2021, denying him bail on merits.

NIA Court denies Fr Stan Swamy bail. NIA had alleged that the group called Persecuted Political Prisoners Solidarity Committee (PPPSC) with which Fr Stan Swamy was associated, was a frontal organisation of the banned CPI (Maoists). However, Fr Stan Swamy's lawyers argued it is a human rights organisation that provides legal aid in Jharkhand.

Fr. Stan Swamy filed a bail application before the National Investigation Agency, Special Court in Mumbai to be released from Taloja Jail.

After 20 long days, the National Investigation Agency expressed its inability to provide a straw and sipper for the Jesuit priest.

Fr. Stan Swamy moved court requesting permission to use either a straw or a sipper to drink water as his hands shake due to Parkinsons disease making it impossible for him to hold a glass or a cup. But the National Investigation Agency (NIA) sought 20 days to respond to this request.
