Cops strip 2 women, put chilli powder on pvt parts

The city police have begun probe against three personnel for allegedly disrobing and putting chilli powder on the private parts of two women, who were detained in connection with their friend’s accidental death.
One of the two women, a 21year-old engineering diploma holder, has alleged that she and her friend were forced to take off their clothes by a woman officer on the directives of a male cop, when they were detained for questioning. The women officer then put chilli powder on their private parts.
Police commissioner Amitesh Kumar said, “The allegations are very serious. I have ordered an inquiry and it should be completed in next couple of days. The statements would be soon recorded.“
The Kranti Chowk police had rounded up two women to probe a case of accidental death. They were with the police from January 4 till January 6 evening. After her release, the woman and her mother rushed to the police commissioner’s office and brought the matter to the notice of senior officers, including deputy commissioner of police (headquarter) Sandeep Atole. “We are probing the allegations and have asked an officer of the rank of assistant commissioner to probe the matter,“ Atole told TOI. One of the women in her written complaint to the state human rights commission has stated that she and two of her female friends were picked up by PSI Ganesh Dhokrat and a woman PSI around 7am on January 4. We told the police what had happened but PSI Dhokrat and two women PSI not only abused us but also assaulted us. Around 9.30 am, PSI Dhokrat asked the two women PSI to remove our clothes and put chilli on our private parts. The women police officers acted as instructed,“ the complainant told TOI.
She alleged that despite hav ing CCTV footage regarding the youth’s death, they were forced to give statements in-camera against two of their friends. She has also alleged that the police sought bribes to keep them out of the matter.
