While on the bench, Justice Suresh ensured that constitutional values were upheld. After his retirement in 1991, he was at the forefront of the human rights movement for 28 years, deepening human rights jurisprudence through People’s Tribunals and Public Hearings. The report, released by former chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Justice Verma in Delhi, made a well-documented and comprehensive case to the International Coordination Committee, ICC to downgrade the accreditation status of the NHRC, India from its "A" category, due to its institutional failure to proactively protect human rights and human rights defenders.
